Once the Revoke is finalized, the prescriber will be revoked and will not be able to transmit controlled substances. For information on the situations when EPCS access must be immediately revoked on the date it was discovered (per DEA regulations), refer to Revoke in EPCS Logical Access Control Rules with ID.me.

Both Revoke and Finalize Revoke procedures are performed from the Administration: e-Rx ID.me IDP & EPCS Registration page in EHR Setup

Open Setup

  1. In Practice Management, Select Admin.
  2. Under EHR Setup, select e-Rx ID.me IDP & EPCS Registration.
  3. Select Admin > Grant/Revoke Prescriber. All prescribers that are currently active for EPCS are listed.
Page 6
  1. Select Revoke EPCS tab.
  2. Select the name of the prescriber whose EPCS Status is and select Revoke
Revoke EPCS
  1. A success message Prescriber has had their EPCS rights revoked is displayed.

The prescriber's status is now Revoked with the EPCS status as RevokedEPCSAccess. The prescriber's name only appears in the Assign Administrator list.

Important Notes about Revoking EPCS Privileges

  • A prescriber can himself/herself revoke the EPCS privileges.
  • A prescriber can transmit controlled substances until the Revoked status is finalized. A prescriber in the Grant step to be revoked is still able to successfully transmit controlled substances.
  • If a provider has two DEA numbers, both DEA numbers must be revoked.
  • A revoked prescriber can act as an Administrator for other prescribers.
  • Revoking a prescriber’s EPCS status will not deregister the prescriber for EPCS services with Surescripts.
