Provider Definitions

Billing Provider

• Provider who bills the payer.
• You can set a default billing provider in Administration: Provider Maintenance and Administration: Locations.  

Referring Provider

• Provider who referred the patient.
• Defaults from the appointment or patient associations in Patient Registration.
• Transfers to the claim form.
• You can set a default referring provider in Administration: Provider Maintenance.

Rendering Provider

• Provider who treated the patient.
• Links to Administration: Calendar Resources.
• Transfers to the claim form.
• Used for Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) Quality and Promoting Interoperability measure evaluation.
• You can set a default rendering provider in Administration: Provider Maintenance.

Servicing Provider

• Internal reporting purposes only.
• Does not get sent to the claim form.
• Used to report services or revenue to the servicing provider, but the servicing provider is not credentialed with the payer. 

Supervising Provider

• Rendering provider's supervisor.
• Provider who supervises the services.
• Transfers to the claim.
• You can set a default supervising provider in Administration: Provider Maintenance.
