Open Encounters
Open Encounters is one of the EHR Dashboard views. This view displays all open encounters for a selected date range and can be filtered by rendering provider, signing provider, location, encounter type, encounter status, and patient. Users can also bulk fax or print encounters and download an open encounters report.
- From the EHR Dashboard, click the Open Encounters tab.
Filters
Options are available to filter the displayed encounters.
- Rendering: Select a rendering provider or All.
- Signed By: Select the provider who signed the encounter (optional).
- Location: Select the encounter location (optional).
- Type: Click the encounter type.
- Status: Click the encounter status.
- Billing: Click the billing status. Billed displays open encounters with a Claim ID. Not Billed displays open encounters without a Claim ID.
- Patient: To view a particular patient’s open encounters, enter and select the patient’s name in the search box. To clear the patient filter, click Remove.
Date Range
The date range defaults to 30 days. You can also select a 60-day, 90-day, or a custom date range.
- Use the left and right arrows in the date range widget to move back and forward in the selected date range.
- For a custom date range, select the start and end dates and then click

Encounter Preview
Encounter Preview enables you to view a patient’s encounter details without leaving the Dashboard. It is available on a slide panel that slides out from the right. Encounter Preview is a condensed version of the Encounter Summary Preview and is also accessible from Patient Tracker and Room Tracker. For more detailed information, refer to Encounter Preview.
- Encounter Preview displays the following:
- Patient demographics and insurance information
- Encounter Chat: Encounter-based chats between medical staff members.
- Encounter tasks
- Subjective: Chief complaint, medication history, allergies, and review of systems
- Objective: Vital signs
- Assessment: Diagnosis
- Plan: Procedure coding, orders, prescribed medications, problem list
- Included at the top are the appointment date, reason for visit, chart number, check-in time, in-room time, and visit time.
Encounter Summary Preview
- Click the Service Date to view the Encounter Summary Preview for the desired encounter.

Bulk Fax and Print Encounters
Providers who make rounds at a nursing home finalize their encounters and then send clinical summaries back to the nursing home caregivers. To facilitate this process, bulk fax and print options are available. These options allow the provider to select one or more encounters to fax or print.
- Filter encounters by provider and location.
- Options are available to fax or print clinical summaries.
- Select the checkbox(es) corresponding to the encounter(s) to be faxed or printed.
- Click Fax or Print.
- If you click Print, a printable PDF of the encounter summary preview downloads.
- If you click Fax, a pop-up window opens, containing the fax cover sheet and recipient information.
- Complete the information and click Save Fax Queue to save.
Download Open Encounters Report
Users can download a report of all open encounters as a CSV file.
