Protecting your identity is essential. NextGen Healthcare is transitioning to ID.me for digital identity verification for ALL PRESCRIBING PROVIDERS over the next few months. This change reflects our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of security for our clients and compliance with industry  standards.

Who is ID.me?

ID.me is the next-generation digital identity network that simplifies how individuals securely prove their identity online. Providers can verify their identity with ID.me once and seamlessly log in across websites without having to create a new login or verify their identity again.

Action Required

To ensure prescribing providers don’t experience any interruption in their prescribing capabilities, please take a moment to read the following notice. It contains important details about the upcoming changes.
  • Phase 1- Identity Proof Prescribers that Electronically Prescribe Controlled Substances (EPCS)
    • EPCS Prescribers need to re-identity proof starting September 20, 2024, to avoid an interruption in prescribing controlled substances.
    • Prescribers will continue to use Exostar for two-factor authentication until we make a formal announcement.
  • Phase 2 - Identity Proof Prescribers that do not prescribe controlled substances (Non-EPCS)
    • Phase 2 - Watch for upcoming announcements for prescribers that only prescribe non-controlled substances to complete identify proofing. (Expected: December 2024)

Why is this Important?

  • All prescribing providers are required to complete an identify proofing process that meets the NIST IAL2 standards or greater, which ID.me includes
  • ID.me’s digital identity verification adds a layer of security for providers to prevent fraudulent activities and unauthorized prescriptions.

How Does Using ID.me Benefit Medical Providers

  1. Your information is secure: ID.me provides the strongest online identity verification available to prevent fraud and identity theft. ID.me uses bank-grade encryption to keep provider’s personal information safe.
  2. Verify your identity only once: After verifying their identity once with ID.me, providers won’t have to re-verify to access other government sites. They can use the same login to access services at other federal agencies and across other sectors.
  3. Control how your information is shared: Providers control which services and businesses can receive their information. As you access new sites with your ID.me login, ID.me will clearly explain what information is needed, and ask for permission before sharing any data.
