The World Health Organization developed ICD-10-CM code U07.1 for COVID-19.

Coding Guidance

Use ICD-10-CM code U07.1 for patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.
Presumptive positive is coded the same as a confirmed positive or a diagnosis based on clinical judgment.
May be used for discharges/dates of service on or after April 1, 2020.
Must be sequenced first followed by the appropriate codes for associated manifestations (for example, fever, cough, lower respiratory infection, etc.) when COVID-19 meets the definition of principal or first-listed diagnosis.
Cannot be retroactively used for cases diagnosed prior to April 1, 2020.
