Apply Patient Payments

This section explains the steps involved in applying a patient payment to a claim. This document reviews the process from the patient's chart.

A patient payment can also be applied in the Charge Entry screen and from the Payments Overview screen.

Note: It is assumed that the patient payment has been posted, or entered.

  • Search for a patient's chart.
  • Click Payment History.
  • Click the Payment ID.
  • Click the Claim ID.

Note: When applying a patient payment, all open claims will be displayed automatically. View and sort options are available if multiple dates are displayed.

  • Enter the dollar amount in the Pat Pmt column and click Post Payment.
  • If a reference is needed to determine which service lines to which the the payment should be posted, expand Service Lines Payments Details. If a Patient Responsibility was applied to the claim, the dollar amount for that service line will be displayed.
  • If a reference is needed for the payment being applied, expand the Patient Information tab.
